As a hunter in Denmark, submitting a game bag return and renewing your hunting licence are annual obligations. If you want to hunt during the 2026/2027 hunting year, you must submit your game bag return and pay your hunting licence fee on time.
Here is an overview of the deadlines, requirements and cost of a hunting licence in Denmark.
Game bag returns in Denmark
All hunters with a valid hunting licence must submit an annual game bag return. This applies even if you have not taken any game. In that case, you must submit a nil return.
You can report your game bag throughout the hunting season via Mit Jagttegn, Denmark's online hunting licence portal. Many hunters choose to record their bag after each hunt to avoid having to compile everything as the deadline approaches.
The final deadline for submitting your game bag return is 31 March 2026.
If you do not submit your return by the deadline:
You will not be able to renew your hunting licence
You risk being charged a penalty fee
Repeated failures to submit returns may lead to sanctions
Information from game bag returns is used to monitor game populations and set hunting seasons in Denmark. Accurate reporting is therefore an important part of sustainable hunting.
When to renew your hunting licence
The Danish hunting year runs from 1 April to 31 March.
If you want to hunt during the 2026/2027 hunting year, you must renew your hunting licence before 1 April 2026. Renewal is normally available from February or March 2026 via Mit Jagttegn.
It is a good idea to renew well in advance, particularly if you plan to hunt in spring or carry out wildlife control.
How much does a hunting licence cost in 2026/2027?
The hunting licence fee for the 2026/2027 hunting year is DKK 680, including compulsory hunting insurance.
The legally required liability insurance is therefore included in the price.
Once payment has been completed, the hunting licence fee is non-refundable. It is therefore important to check that all your details are correct before paying.
Requirements for renewing your hunting licence
To renew your hunting licence, you must meet the following requirements:
Your game bag return must be submitted by 31 March 2026
The DKK 680 hunting licence fee must be paid
